11 May 2015 : Seán Brosnan
Tom Conroy, Mark Geraghty (both ‘Vikings’), John Paul Kelly (‘The Theory Of Everything’) and Donal Woods (‘Downton Abbey’) all up for award
The IFTA Awards is getting ever closer (Sunday, May 24) and we continue our coverage of the ceremony by looking at the nominees of the Production Design category.

Featuring Tom Conroy (celebrating his tenth IFTA nomination this year for ‘Vikings’), Mark Geraghty (with his third consecutive nomination this year, also for ‘Vikings’), John Paul Kelly (who garnered rave reviews for his work on the Oscar-winning film ‘The Theory Of Everything’) and Donal Woods (five-time Emmy-nominated and BAFTA-winning designer of ‘Downton Abbey’), the race for this year’s IFTA is very interesting indeed.

Tom Conroy has hit an IFTA milestone this year by reaching a massive ten nominations with his 2015 nod. Nominated for his work on the ‘Vikings’ season two episode ‘Treachery’, Conroy has become a stalwart of the hit international show, so far working on 15 episodes.

Conroy will also be gunning for back-to-back IFTA Awards for his work on the show, picking up the gong last year. He has previously won an IFTA for ‘The Tudors’, a show which also garnered Conroy a Primetime Emmy Award (and two further nominations), three Gemini Awards and two Art Directors Guild nominations.

Also nominated for ‘Vikings’ (for the season two episode ‘Blood Eagle’), is Mark Geraghty. Celebrating his third nomination in a row, Geraghty’s previous credits include ‘Calvary’, ‘Leap Year’, ‘The Eclipse’ and ‘Shrooms’.

Geraghty won the IFTA in 2013 for his work on ‘Ripper Street’ and in 2007 for his acclaimed work on Jim Sheridan’s ‘Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. Geraghty has also won a BAFTA Award for ‘Ripper Street’, a show which also garnered him an RTS nomination.

Up against the ‘Vikings’ men is John Paul Kelly who is coming off of a wave of international acclaim for his designing of the Oscar-winning Stephen Hawking biopic ‘The Theory Of Everything’.

Armed with a Primetime Emmy Award and a BAFTA for the television movie ‘The Lost Prince’, Kelly also has two previous IFTA nominations for ‘The Guard’ and ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’. Other credits of his include ‘About Time’, ‘Lassie’ and ‘Bloody Sunday’.

Nominated for ‘Downton Abbey’ and celebrating his first IFTA nomination this year is Donal Woods.

Woods’ enduring and acclaimed work on the period drama has been lauded for the past number of years and has received three Emmy and BAFTA nominations. He has also been nominated twice at the Art Directors Guild Awards for the show and won a BAFTA Award in 2008 for ‘Cranford’. Other credits include the Oscar-nominated film ‘My Week With Marilyn’, Emmy-winning show ‘Homeland’ and the television movie ‘Blood And Oil’.

The IFTA Film & Drama Awards will take place on Sunday, 24 May. Check out the full list of nominees here.
