Long-time Irish resident and five-time Academy-Award nominated director and writer John Boorman will receive a Maverick Spirit Award at the 2015 Cinequest Film Festival – due to run from February 24th – March 8th, in the Silicon Valley/San Jose, California.
Boorman will be presented with his award at a conversation and screening of his latest Irish set drama ‘Queen & Country’.
The Maverick Spirit Award is Cinequest’s most prestigious accolade and recognises “bold, visionary and creative forces—the finest in the worlds of Silicon Valley innovation and the film arts”. US actress Rosario Dawson is also set to receive the award.
‘Queen and Country’ is a sequel to Boorman’s 1987 Oscar-nominated film ‘Hope and Glory’ and has so far screened at the Cork Film Festival and in the Director’s Forthright Section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival – as well as screening at IFTA’s private Academy Members ‘An Evening With John Boorman’ event in September 2014.
BBC Worldwide have already acquired the film – which stars Caleb Landry Jones, Pat Shortt, Sinead Cusack, Callum Turner, David Thewlis and Richard E. Grant and is part-funded by the Irish Film Board.
The 25th edition of the Cinequest Film Festival will run from February 24th – March 8th, in the Silicon Valley/San Jose, California.
