Irish camera operator Des Whelan will attend IADT Dun Laoghaire on Wednesday, January 21st to offer insights into his distinguished career as part of the National Film School Lecture Series.
Whelan has worked on large scale international films such as ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, ‘Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’, ‘The Wolfman’, ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. He is also well known for his work with Irish director Jim Sheridan working with the six-time Oscar nominee on films such as ‘In the Name of the Father’ , ‘The Field’ and ‘My Left Foot’. He has also worked on television show ‘The Tudors’ which was filmed in Ireland.
Whelan’s recent credits include the superhero blockbuster ‘Thor: The Dark World’ starring Chris Hemsworth and directed by Alan Taylor, big budget war drama ‘Fury’, starring Brad Pitt and directed by David Ayer, and Tim Burton’s ‘Big Eyes’ starring Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams.
