A number of strong contenders for Cannes, news that Hollywood and China have joined forces for ‘Iron Man 3’ and James Cameron’s tiny deep-sea dive camera are amongst the international stories in today’s Daily Bite.
Cannes line-up taking shape… Variety are reporting that a number of highly-anticipated US films are vying to enter competition at Cannes next month in what could prove a particularly strong year at the festival. They include Andrew Dominik's ‘Killing Them Softly’ with Brad Pitt; John Hillcoat's ‘Lawless’ with Gary Oldman, Jeff Nichols' ‘Mud,’ and Derek Cianfrance's crime drama ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ with Ryan Gosling. Cannes runs over May 16-27.
’Iron Man 3’ set for Chinese co-production…. Variety are reporting that the second sequel in the Robert Downey Jr starring franchise will be the first co-production of a multi-billion dollar franchise between Hollywood and China. Walt Disney Company China, Marvel Studios and DMG Entertainment will co-produce 'Iron Man 3’ in China. Filming is expected to begin next month in the US and in China in late summer.
‘Cameron unveils new deep-sea dive camera’… ‘Titanic’ director James Cameron has unveiled a new thumb-sized 1080p camera at the National Association of Broadcasters show in the US, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Cameron used the tiny camera to shoot 3D footage during his dive to the Mariana Trench’s Challenger Deep, the ocean’s deepest point, on March 25. He told the Hollywood Reporter: “We created a tiny camera that fits in a very small housing to sit out at the end of a camera boom on a one person sub that was going down to 36,000 feet.
