Crime comedy ‘War on Everyone’, written and directed by ‘The Guard’ and ‘Calvary’ filmmaker John Michael McDonagh, will be released to Irish and UK cinemas on September 30th, Icon Film Distribution has confirmed.
The film, which made its’ world premiere at Berlinale this month, also played in the Narrative Spotlight at the SXSW Festival. ‘War on Everyone’ stars Michael Peña and Alexander Skarsgård as corrupt cops looking to blackmail and generally stitch up all the felons they cross paths with. Unluckily for them, they run up against someone who’s even more dangerous and unscrupulous than they are. Or is he? Irish support in the film comes from David Wilmot, who has now starred in all three of John Michael McDonagh’s films.
The crime comedy, which was shot early last year in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is writer/director John Michael McDonagh’s first feature set outside Ireland with ‘The Guard’ and ‘Calvary’ both shot in Galway and Sligo, respectively. He won three IFTA Awards for his work on ‘The Guard’ (Rising Star, Best Script and Best Director) and one for ‘Calvary’ (Best Script) with both films picking up Best Film.
