Michael Gambon Joins James Joyce Drama 'James & Lucia' Opposite Aidan Gillen
09 Apr 2019 : News Desk
Michael Gambon & Aiden Gillen
The drama tells of Joyce’s final years in Zurich and Paris, as he struggles with the loss of his eyesight and fights to save his daughter, Lucia, from madness.

James Joyce was an Irish novelist, short story writer, and poet. He is regarded as one of the most influential and important authors of the 20th century, writing well-renowned modern greats, such as ‘Ulysses’ and ‘Finnegans Wake’.

Gambon (‘Gosford Park’, ‘Layer Cake’) is set to play the role of Professor Alfred Vogt, who performed several operations on the famous Irish author. The new casting comes in the wake of Gillen (‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’) previously being announced to play Joyce back in 2017.

The project is an Irish, Belgian and U.S co-production, with shooting due to take place in both Dublin and Brussels. Post-production is also due to take place in Ireland.

Writer/director Robert Mullan (‘Mad to Be Normal’) helms the project and also produces through his company Sisyphus Films, alongside Michael Garland of Irish-based Grand Pictures, Morris Ruskin, Mark Andrews of MugShot Films, and UMedia.

The project is due to begin production in November 2019.
