SAG Awards 2018: Three Billboards Continues To Lead the Oscar Charge
22 Jan 2018 : Nathan Griffin
The 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards took place last night, Sunday January 22nd, marking another hugely successful night for Martin McDonagh’s ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’. The award ceremony, which took place in Los Angeles welcomed its first ever host Kristen Bell to present the night.

The biggest winners of the night included television series’ ‘Big Little Lies’ (2), ‘Veep’ (2) and ‘This Is Us’ (2), while ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ kept its dominance in the film categories, winning three awards.

There were no awards for ‘Lady Bird’ or ‘Game of Thrones’ although nominated across a number of categories, respectively.

Competition remains fierce towards the end of the run-in to the Oscars, particularly in the ‘Best Female Actor in a Leading Role’ category, which saw Frances McDormand edging out Margot Robbie (‘I, Tonya’), Sally Hawkins (‘The Shape of Water’), Judie Dench (Victoria & Abdul’), and Saoirse Ronan (‘Lady Bird’) to pick up the top female honour of the night.

‘Three Billboards’ also picked up an award for ‘Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role’, with Sam Rockwell beating another competitive category including co-star Woody Harrelson, to the award.

The film also picked up the award for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Theatrical Motion Picture’ marking another highly successful night for Martin McDonagh’s small town drama, which leads the charge ahead of the Oscar announcements tomorrow – Tuesday, January 23rd.
