The awards acknowledge the highest achievements in independent film and see Oscar-nominated Ruth Negga and renowned cinematographer Robbie Ryan in the line-up of nominees.

The awards ceremony will be presented by Nick Kroll and John Mulaney and broadcast live on IFC at 22:00 Irish time.

Additional guest presenters are Fred Armisen, Orlando Bloom, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Samuel L. Jackson, Viggo Mortensen, Amanda Peet, Freida Pinto, Miles Teller and Kerry Washington.

Ruth Negga has gone from strength to strength since her Oscar-worthy performance alongside Joel Edgerton, as interracial married couple Richard and Mildred Loving debuted at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. She was also honoured with the Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival last month.

‘Loving’ Director Nichols is also up for Best Director. Negga shares her category with Annette Bening (20th Century Woman), Isabelle Huppert (Elle), Sasha Lane (American Honey) and Natalie Portman (Jackie).

Robbie Ryan is nominated for Best Cinematography for Andrea Arnold’s ‘American Honey’, a project which also earned him a BIFA win last December for Outstanding Achievement in Craft.

The Best Cinematography category also honours the work of the following nominees: Ava Berkofsky (Free In Deed), Lol Crawley (The Childhood of a Leader), Zach Kuperstein (The Eyes of My Mother) and James Laxton, (Moonlight).
