BBC sitcom ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ has tickled the funny bone of audiences all around the world. The series won Best Comedy at the TV Choice Awards while its creator, writer and star, Brendan O’Carroll, recently won Best Comedy Performance at the Royal Television Academy Awards. A highly anticipated sequel to the series hits Irish cinemas today.
The movie sees O’Carroll return as the dominant matriarch Mrs. Brown, whose forced to battle to save her livelihood when a develop attempts to close her market stall on Moore Street. Like the series, the film is directed by Ben Kellett and written by O’Carroll.
The feature was produced by That's Nice Films, Penalty Kick Films and BocFlix. It was shot in Dublin between September and October 2013 with filming location including Moore Street, Dublin quays, Father Matthew Square, The Customs House and Wimbledon Studios.
The heavily Irish cast includes Eilish O’Carroll, Paddy Houlihan, Jennifer Gibney, Danny O’Carroll, Dermot Crowley, Dermot O’Neill, Fiona O’Carroll, Simon Delaney, Chris Patrick-Simpson, and Keith Duffy.
The world premiere of the film took place last Wednesday, the 25th of June, at the Savoy cinema in Dublin, with Brendan O’Carroll and the rest of the cast in attendance. O’Carroll described the film as “a slice of Mrs Brown’s life with something big happening” at the premiere, and expressed delight at having the film premiere in Dublin. O’Carroll has previously indicated that a movie sequel, and possibly a trilogy, will be made based on Ireland’s favourite nanny.
