Following a challenging yet successful year for the company against the backdrop of COVID, EGG VFX has announced the appointment of Aled Rhys Jones as their new Head of Department.

A graduate of Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design, Aled has relocated to Ireland with his young family, and will now be bringing his nearly 20 years of experience in the industry to heading EGG VFX. His long list of high profile credits includes The Dark Crystal, Altered Carbon, Black Mirror, Spectre, The Revenant, Game of Thrones, Wolf Hall, Interstellar, and Gravity.

Working through two lockdowns, the team of 12 artists at EGG VFX, in conjunction with Milk VFX in London, delivered over 400 shots in less than 27 weeks for Intergalactic (Sky, TX Q2 2021). Working with EGG’s cutting edge and remote enabled infrastructure the team also delivered over 150 shots for The Christmas Waltz, which was the 2nd highest-rated cable broadcast in the US over the Christmas period.

The successful delivery of both of these projects on time, on budget, and to the highest standard has been attributed to the leadership of Rhys Jones, who said “Technical problem solving and visual storytelling has always been my passion. Supervising teams in London allowed me to discover my talent for leading, teaching, and decision making.”

Heading up EGG VFX allows me to apply these skills, working in Ireland’s vibrant and growing VFX industry, using EGG’s first-rate infrastructure, and working alongside EGG’s world-class feature and drama post facility,” Aled added.

“We are delighted that Aled has decided to join our team,” said EGG Co-CEO, Gareth Young when speaking about Rhys Jones' addition to the company. “His experience in the industry is second to none and he is a proven team leader. We look forward to expanding the footprint of EGG VFX and with Aled’s leadership allied to our established brand and a very competitive tax credit; make EGG VFX the best choice for full VFX projects or collaboration.”

Founded in 2011, EGG VFX has worked on the widest range of content including independent shorts, adverts, and television documentary, but its main focus is delivering characters, scenes, and shots for VFX driven drama and features including Sinbad (Sky), Ghosthunters (Feature), Imaginary Mary (Sony), and Sea Fever (Feature).

A three- year Enterprise Ireland funded project means that all EGG’s VFX services can depend on a robust, first-rate, and cutting edge Pipeline.

Visual Effects has now become a key component of almost every production that passes through her sister company, EGG Post Production, and there is a high degree of collaboration, knowledge, and information sharing between the two parts of the business.

A founder member of VFXAI, EGG VFX is committed to promoting Ireland nationally and internationally as a VFX centre of excellence and a destination with talent and scale.
