The Dublin-based Post Production Company has been named as one of twenty potential nominees for Visual Effects category in the 89th Academy Awards.
‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ directed by Roland Emmerich released to Irish cinemas in June of this year.
The original ‘Independence Day’, also from Roland Emmerich won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 1997, in addition to a nomination for Best Sound.
The preliminary shortlist was determined The Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee, and will select the ten films which will progress to voting stage later this month.
Official nominations will be revealed on Tuesday, January 24th 2017.
Ed Bruce, Visual Effects Supervisor, Screen Scene:
“It's great news. We were delighted to work with Fox again on IDR and be part of a team of wonderful VFX vendors, led by Volker Engel and Marc Weigert, tackling this iconic feature.
When I look at the shortlist I see such an amazing collection of work and ultimately thousands of talented artists and crew that work tirelessly at their craft.
For SSVFX to be part of that selection is a testament to our team of hard working, creative and diligent people.
We've had such a great 2016, picking up a variety of nominations and an IFTA win. We're very much looking forward to next year's exciting projects and continuing to be the leader of the Irish Visual Effects Industry.”
