RTÉ personalities Dáithí Ó’Sé, Maura Derrane, Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh and Norah Casey will all present a new daytime programme called ‘Today’ from RTÉ studios in Cork.

In what will be the biggest RTÉ production ever to base itself in Cork, ‘Today’ will be broadcast live from RTÉ studios on Father Matthew Street in Cork city five days a week.

Ó’Sé and Derrane will be on hosting duties from Monday to Thursday while Ní Chofaigh and Casey will take the helm on Fridays. The first show will air on November 5.

Steve Carson, director of programmes for RTÉ Television said he was glad that “such an important part of our schedule will, for the first time, be produced in Cork”.

He added: “We have a great production team in RTÉ Cork with a wealth of talent and experience in this area and we think viewers will be quick to build a rapport with the onscreen team of Dáithí, Maura, Norah and Bláthnaid.”

‘Today’ is being billed as a daytime lifestyle programme which will bring “topical chat, fun and lifestyle items” during the week, while the end of the week will see an all-female lineup for a “feelgood” show which will focus more on entertainment, beauty, fashion and gossip.

Each day the presenters will be joined in studio by a panel of three guests, plus additional specialist contributors live in studio and via live link-ups from around the country.

The RTÉ Cork production team is made up of series producer Marie Toft, executive producer Janet Frawley and series editor Colm Crowley.

The new programme will see Ó’Sé’s return to daytime TV, having formerly hosted ‘The Daily Show’ on RTÉ One with Claire Byrne, as well as the return of former ‘The Afternoon Show’ hosts Derrane, who hosted from 2009-2010, and Ní Chofaigh, who hosted from 2004 to 2009.

Ó’Sé and Derrane previously worked close by when working on RTÉ’s 'The Daily Show' and ‘Four Live’, while the Kerry man also worked with Ní Chofaigh on the ‘All Ireland Talent Show’.

Casey has been an investor on RTÉ Two programme ‘Dragons’ Den’ since 2011, and recently presented ‘The Takeover’, the third pilot in RTÉ’s Format Farm, on the same channel.

All four presenters expressed their delight at landing the new show as well as making the trip from Dublin to Cork. Ó'Sé said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to present a show like this. It will be brilliant working with people I know so well. Father Matthew Street won’t know what hit it!”

Derrane said she and Ó'Sé have “great energy” when working together, and that she’s “looking forward to working alongside Bláthnaid and Norah as well.”

Ní Chofaigh, who will soon hit screens in TG4 soap ‘An Crisis Eile’, said: “I’m so excited about the new show, we’ve got a great team in front of the camera and a great team working behind the scenes with us in Cork. Having worked on ‘The Afternoon Show’ for six years I know the impact that afternoon programming can have.”

Casey added: “What excites me is doing a show about real issues that matter to women and I hope we can get them talking, surprise them occasionally and never be too far away from making them laugh.”

The first episode of ‘Today’ will air on Monday November 5 on RTÉ One.
