Irish filmmakers Joe Lawlor and Christine Molloy, the writing / directing team behind feature film ‘Helen’, have been chosen for this year’s Trailblazers, a joint initiative between the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) and the UK’s Skillset Screen Academy Network that encourages and promotes new film talent.

Lawlor and Molloy, whose feature debut ‘Helen’ will receive its world premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival, join a line-up of 22 other up and coming film talents chosen from the EIFF programme and from Skillset Screen Academies around the UK.

The Trailblazers scheme, now in its second year, aims to highlight and showcase emerging film talent, while offering students and graduates of Skillset Screen Academies an introduction to the UK film industry and the festival circuit.

Former talents selected for Trailblazers include actor Toby Kebbell, (Control), actor Matthew Beard (‘And When Did You Last See Your Father?’), Jim Threapleton, writer / director of ‘Extraordinary Rendition’ and producer Rachel Connors (Sugarhouse)

“I am delighted that Skillset is able to partner with EIFF on Trailblazers again to create a focal point for industry to spot emerging UK filmmaking talent,” said Skillset Director of Film Janine Marmot. “Last year's Trailblazers have gone on to win awards around the world, reinforcing EIFF’s position as the European festival of discovery for new talent.”
