Viewing Figures Released By TG4 Prove Another Successful Year Of GAA Allianz League Coverage

This years Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues have proven a massive hit yet again with audiences on TG4, with over a third of available viewers tuning in to watch during the competition, a significant increase on previous years.

Between January and April, TG4 provided extensive coverage of the Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues, showing a minimum of three full games every Sunday when weather permitted, as well as highlights. The channel’s coverage of the competitions reached 1.47m people in total, more than a third of the available TV population.

The 2018 Allianz Hurling League came to an end when rivals Tipperary and Kilkenny squared off in Nowlan Park in the Division 1 Final. The final was watched by an average of 207,500 people, commanding a 25% share of viewing, with over 426,000 people tuning into the TG4 coverage of the match.

The 2018 Allianz Football League concluded over the Easter weekend when the four divisional finals were played, including the top tier clash between Dublin and Galway at Croke Park on Easter Sunday. That match was watched by an average of 278,600 Individuals, taking a 30.1% share of people viewing TV at the time. The game reached 549,000 people in total.

TG4 also provided exclusive online coverage of a number of games during the Allianz League season. On Easter Sunday the Kilkenny v Wexford Hurling League Division 1 semi-final was transmitted live on TG4’s YouTube channel, attracting over 77,000 views, the most of any broadcast since the channel first started showing live sports events on the platform last year.

The games generated substantial traffic on TG4’s online platforms as well, reaching over 195,000 fans on Facebook and there were over 1.5m impressions through Twitter, which shows audience consumption patterns are changing and people are interacting much more actively through social media now for sports content.
