BAI Launch 2017 Community Broadcasting Support Scheme
19 Jan 2017 : Laura Brennan
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has today, 19th January, announced details of its Community Broadcasting Support Scheme 2017.

The Scheme, which has a total available fund of €25,000, is open to all Community and Community of Interest radio and television broadcasters in the country. It is designed to offer funding support to enable broadcasters to undertake reviews that will advance the organisational development of their stations.

Organisational development initiatives which can be funded through the scheme include:

  • evaluations of staff and volunteer needs,
  • reviews of station policies and procedures to ensure that they are effective and appropriate, and
  • reviews of the relationship between broadcasters and the communities they serve.

Commenting on the launch, Michael O’Keeffe, CEO said “Community and Community of Interest broadcasters represent a distinct strand of the Irish broadcasting environment and are a valued element of the range of services available to audiences. As with other broadcasting sectors, sustainability remains an ongoing challenge for community radio and television broadcasters.”

“In line with the strategic objectives of the 2017 – 2019 Strategy Statement, the BAI will continue to work with community broadcasters, and the broadcasting sector overall, to support sustainability. The 2017 Community Broadcasting Support Scheme is one of a number of initiatives designed to contribute to this strategic objective over the coming years.”

The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 12 noon on Monday 27th February 2017.
