Auditions will take place across the country next week for four roles in ‘Probable Parent’, a new feature film by IFTA award winner Ken Wardrop (His & Hers). Individuals who fit the character descriptions being sought are welcome to attend – regardless of experience.
‘Probable Parent’ is a comedy surrounding a single woman hitting her forties who sets about a journey to find a potential suitor. The film is currently in a development stage and successful audition candidates will enter into a series of workshops from May 2010 onwards. Ken explains the project’s current status, saying, “We're looking initially for actors for the workshopping stage. This is a treatment I’ve been developing and we’ll explore my ideas further in the workshops. It’ll be a long process with another round of workshops in June.”
To that end, director Ken and his team are looking to cast characters in the following groups: Female Characters between the ages 30 – 45 & 15 – 23; Male Characters between the ages 10 – 16 and Male Characters with a foreign accent (authentic) between the ages of 20 & 45.
Applicants should be available to work on specific days during the second two weeks in May and Ken says it’s important to remember that there is no experience necessary, citing authenticity as a desired trait for the project: “The lead character is a farmer” he tells IFTN “So I want real authenticity. We really hope to find some undiscovered talent out there!”

‘Probable Parent’ is produced by Andrew Freedman (Undressing my Mother) for Venom Productions with the support of the Irish Film Board. When asked why an open audition process has been employed for the feature Ken tells us it’s a tried and trusted approach: “We had great success when we auditioned around the country for ‘His & Hers,’” he says. “And whilst we are only holding these auditions for four of the film’s characters I’m hoping we’ll get some great undiscovered talent - teenagers from drama groups etc.”
The film will go into production “no later than the start of next year” Ken tells us. The feature’s director of photography and other cast members are still TBC.
