IFTA-winning Irish actress Ruth Negga has been confirmed for an Acting Masterclass at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh, kicking off on July 5th next month.
Last year’s masterclass was held with Oscar nominated US actor John C. Reilly, who recently starred in Irish co-production ‘The Lobster, alongside Colin Farrell.
Negga is currently receiving very positive critical notices for Jeff Nichols film ‘Loving’, with many publications touting her as a possible 2017 Oscar contender. The film, which premiered at Cannes last month and which also stars Joel Edgerton, follows the courtship and marriage of Mildred Jeter, a black woman, and Richard Loving, a white man who are arrested and sentenced to prison in Virginia in 1958, because their interracial marriage violates the state's anti-miscegenation laws.
The actress can also be seen in the blockbuster ‘Warcraft’, which opened at the weekend in China with a massive $157m at the Box Office. On the small screen, she is currently starring as Tulip O’Hare in AMC’s ‘Preacher’, which has received acclaim.
Other recent roles of Negga’s includes a villainous turn as Raina in ‘Marvel Agents of Shield’ which earned her an IFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress Drama back in April of this year.
This represented the actress’s seventh IFTA nomination and she won the award in 2012 for portraying Shirley Bassey in the television movie ‘Shirley’. She also won the EFP Shooting Star Award in 2006.
The 28th Galway Film Fleadh takes place July 5th to 10th. Stay tuned to IFTN for more updates as they come in.
