Glasgow Film Theatre are running a season called Screening Irish History: Outsiders’ Histories running this month from the 8th – 29th May with each screening followed by a panel discussion and Q&A.

This series explores dramatic and sometimes troubling aspects of Irish history. From single mothers to forgotten emigrants, each film takes the perspective of outsiders and critical voices to reveal Irish society in imaginative and provocative ways.

Film in this season includes; The Rocky Road to Dublin (8^th May), the Scottish premiere of the documentary Hubert Butler: Witness to the Future (15^th May), Philomena (22^nd May) and  I Could Read the Sky (29^th May).

Each screening will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A featuring filmmakers, historians and other commentators.

Screening Irish History is co-organized with the University of Strathclyde’s History department and led by Dr Niall Whelehan.
