The 38th Celtic Media Festival will take place on the Isle of Man for the first time ever
The 37th Celtic Media Festival has drawn to a close in Dungarvan, Co Waterford with Irish projects winning in 17 categories of the Torc Awards.

Big winners include Aoife Kelleher’s ‘One Million Dubliners’ which took home the Torc Award for Factual Single, just days after winning Silver Medal for Documentary at the 2016 New York Festivals World’s Awards in Las Vegas. Northern Irish short ‘Boogaloo and Graham’ won Best Short Drama, Lisa Mulcahy’s fantasy film ‘The Legend of Longwood’ won in the Children’s category, TG4’s original format ‘Pioc do Ride’ won Entertainment, RTÉ’s ‘The Savage Eye: An Irish Guide to Failure’ won in the comedy category while ‘Crumlin’ won Factual Series.

Festival organisers this year were overwhelmed with a record breaking 510 entries to the Torc Awards, exceeding 2015 entries and the final shortlist celebrated some of the very best films, TV, radio productions and digital media to emerge from the Celtic nations in the past year.

The 38th Celtic Media Festival is set to take place on the Isle of Man. The festival has never been held on the Isle of Man and dates and venues will be announced over the coming months.

Pádhraic Ó Ciardha, Chair of the Celtic Media Festival Board, said: “By any reckoning, this has been the biggest and best Celtic Media Festival yet. Almost 500 delegates have enjoyed a programme of truly inspiring panel discussions and sessions here in Dungarvan over the past few days, and the people of the town have been wonderful hosts. We’re delighted that this year’s festival has been so successful, and are hugely excited to take the festival to the Isle of Man for the very first time in 2017.”

Festival Director, Catriona Logan said: “Dungarvan has been a fantastic host for the 37th Celtic Media Festival, and I’d like to thank everyone who has helped make this year’s event such a success. I’m sure I can speak for all Festival delegates in saying the vibrancy of Dungarvan and its people has been so welcomed. We’d like to extend our congratulations to all of this year’s winners and thank all broadcasters for their entries this year, as we received a record-breaking number of submissions yet again. We’re looking forward to bringing the festival to the Isle of Man in 2017, for the first time ever.”
