The council of Europe’s fund for co-production, distribution and exhibition of European cinema, selected the projects at its 147th meeting which ran from June 16th-23rd.
In this cycle of funding, 31% of funding, or €2.6M went to female directors, with an additional €700k awarded to 24 distributors, under its distribution support programme.
Among the 27 projects awarded major funding are the Ireland, Belgium and Netherlands co-production ‘Jade’ (aka ‘Dirty God’) from Sacha Polak.
Polak is set to direct a script she has co-written with Susanne Farrell, about a young mother from London stepping back into her life after an acid attack leaves her with severe burns. Finding solace in wild partying and online liaisons, the actions of a stranger threaten to turn her life upside once more. With her friendships and family starting to crumble, Jade battles to put her life back together.
The ‘Jade’ project team were participants of BOOSTNL in 2016. Production companies are Viking Film for The Netherlands, A Private View for Belgium and Savage Productions in Ireland.
