Planning permission is being sought by Greystones Media Campus Limited to develop a multi-studio film and media campus worth an estimated €150 million in Greystones, Co. Wicklow.

The proposed studio plan, which is expected to consist of 14 studios, offices, and ancillary production buildings, is backed by producer Conor Harrington of Trinity Film and Media, and Irish Strategic Investment Fund, Capwell, which is a subsidiary of construction company, Sisk.

If granted permission by the Wicklow County Council, the development and completion of the facilities on the 50-acre site at the IDA Business and Technology Park could create more than 1500 jobs.

Speaking with The Irish Times, a spokesperson for Greystone Media Campus said that the “state of the art” facility would aid the growth of Ireland’s film and television industry.

“The proposed facility will seek to build upon, and contribute to, the existing Dublin-Wicklow film and screen cluster, the leading economic cluster of its type in the country,” she continued. “It will also work to consolidate Wicklow’s position as the traditional heart of television and film production in Ireland.”

Speaking about the campus itself, the spokesperson said; “[the campus] has the potential to be an exciting new chapter in the story of the Irish film industry and will lead to a wealth of new opportunities in the sector and across Wicklow . . . the only county in Ireland to have two large-scale studios. The existing infrastructure needs to be supported and expanded if Irish productions are to compete internationally.”

“In addition, the increasing demand for content from global companies such as Netflix, Amazon and Disney mean that the proposal for this new facility is extremely timely.”

Conor Harrington’s film credits include Mrs. Brown’s D’Movie and the Hardy Bucks film, which he featured as executive producer.

Wicklow County Council is expected to deliver a decision on the application in late August.
