‘Standby’, a new romantic comedy starring Brian Gleeson (‘Love/Hate’, ‘The Stag’) and Jessica Paré (‘Mad Men’), will be released in Irish cinemas from Friday November 14th.
Alan (Gleeson) works in a dead beat job with his mother as a part-time tourist advisor at Dublin Airport. There he meets an old girlfriend, Alice (Paré), who is stuck on standby for a flight home to New York. Seizing his chance, Alan convinces a reluctant Alice to stay one more night in Dublin. They have an unforgettable evening together, but time is running out for them.
The film is written by Pierce Ryan and directed by brothers Rob and Ronan Burke in their feature debut. The Burkes are double IFTA winners for short film ‘Runners’ and TV series ‘The Importance of Being Whatever’. Their latest series ‘Damo & Ivor’ is airing on RTÉ2 now.
‘Standby’ will receive its world premiere at the upcoming Cork Film Festival which runs from November 7th to 16th (see the full programme here).
The trailer for the film was released yesterday and Patrick O'Neill, CEO of the film's distributor, Wildcard Distribution, said: “We're very excited to be releasing the first trailer for ‘Standby’. With the terrific chemistry between Brian and Jessica and a fresh and funny script, it's a thoroughly modern romantic comedy and an impressive visual showcase for the youthful, vibrant city that Dublin has become.”
