All eyes will be on the Emerald Isle for St. Patrick’s Day as we watch the live coverage of colour and charm broadcasting in news bulletins across the world on Friday 17th March.
Showcasing Irish culture, talent and the craic’ IFTN run through the best of Irish films being broadcast across TV and Netflix for the celebratory weekend that’s in it.
St. Patrick’s Day Irish films on the telly:
• P.S I Love You, TV3 at 9pm. The romantic drama starring Hilary Swank based on the book by Irish author Cecilia Aherne was filmed across various Irish locations mostly in County Wicklow; the Sally Gap in the Wicklow Mountains, Kilruddery House Bray, Blessington, Enniskerry, Glendalough and also Whelan’s Pub on Wexford Street in Dublin.
• Jimmy's Hall, TG4 at 9.15pm. Ken Loach’s fact-based period drama about an Irish socialist forced into exile in 1921 after local authorities object to him running a dance hall. We watch as he returns after 10 years in America, to care for his ageing mother. Seeing the poverty of the surrounding area, he decides to risk further conflict by reopening his abandoned hall. Starring Irish actors Barry Ward, Simone Kirby and Andrew Scott and filmed in Leitrim and Sligo.
• Chasing Leprechauns, TV3 at 11.30pm. The 2012 Irish family comedy starring Amy Huberman ‘Striking Out’ and filmed in Redcross, Co.Wicklow. Is the story about an American businessman (Adrian Pasdar ‘Avengers’) sent to a village in Ireland to persuade the residents to sell an area of land - but they refuse, since they believe it is home to leprechauns. In desperation, he turns to a local expert IFTN run through the best of Irish films being broadcast across TV and Netflix for the weekend that’s in it.
