Tonight’s episode marks the first in a four-part series exploring the world of Jobstown, Tallaght, the area at the forefront of the fight against water charges in Ireland. The series is produced by Motive TV for TV3.
Over a year’s worth of footage we are presented with community spirit as well as its challenges, meeting families living in the large council estate as well as notable figures from the area, such as UFC Paddy ‘The Hooligan’ Holohan.
The area was built in the 1970s without shops, schools or sports facilities for the families living there and now contains over nine hundred houses with an increasing population and overcrowding.
Tonight’s episode introduces the Coomber family, who live in a small three bedroom house with eleven people. Darcy Coomber and his girlfriend Dawn also live in the house along with their six month old baby Layla. They share a small room with Darcy’s two brothers and are desperate to find a landlord that accepts the council’s HAP (Housing Assistance Payment) scheme, something most landlords have been refusing.
Paddy 'The Hooligan' Holohan still lives in Jobstown with a decade of fighting in the UFC beside him alongside teammate Conor McGregor, and has a rare medical condition catch up with him in this episode forcing him to give up his successful career.
Holohan then finds the opportunity to open his own state-of-the-art gym in Tallaght, to a scale which Ireland as not seen before.
