Cillian Murphy will star in and produce a Peaky Blinders film, directed by Tom Harper, written by Steven Knight.
Netflix have greenlit a Peaky Blinders film, starring Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer). This is the first official confirmation of a follow-up to the hit television series, following showrunner Steven Knight announcing in March that the film was going forward with Murphy aboard.
Plot details and further casting are currently being kept under wraps. However, Knight has previously alluded to the film being set during World War II.
Murphy will produce as well as star as Tommy Shelby, with Tom Harper (War & Peace) directing, and Knight returning to write the currently untitled screenplay. As director, Harper helmed the second half of Peaky Blinders Season 1.
Other producers on the film include Mandabach, Knight, and Guy Heeley. Exec producers are Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren and David Mason. The feature will be produced in association with BBC Film.
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” said Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy of the upcoming project. “It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
“I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen,” Knight added. “It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”
Production is set to begin later this year.
