New €100,000 Pathways Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Fund Worth announced for Irish Animation Sector

Following the first pilot iteration of the Pathways Diversity, Equity and Inclusion funding scheme in 2021, Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland through Animation Ireland is providing a further allocation of €100,000 in funding that will be used to provide opportunities on productions for those from diverse and under-represented communities and those where access to the industry would historically be limited.

The Pathways funding scheme particularly welcomes applications from producers for proposals that support overcoming barriers for underrepresented participants wishing to transition from other sectors and those who wish to return to the screen sector after a period of absence.

The scheme also welcomes proposals that aim to address gender and diversity balance in specific departments and roles where gender and diversity would historically be skewed.

Given the current situation in Ukraine and in other countries with forced displacement due to conflict, for this round of the Pathways fund, Screen Ireland also welcomes applications that support opportunities for refugees seeking to transition to the screen sector in Ireland.

Producers from the Animation sector can apply for a funding award of up to a maximum of €10,000 per production/project in 2022.

A higher funding award may be considered if the production is offering exceptional ED&I opportunities (following review by the awarding panel). More than one application per annum per company/producer is allowed with a maximum allowance of €20,000 per annum per company/producer.

Please note that all the funds necessary for the production to go ahead must be in place in order to receive the funds for Pathways. Projects awarded funding must commence production before 31st December 2022.

“The growth of the animation sector in Ireland has created significant employment opportunities and ongoing skills gaps,” said Gareth Lee, Skills Manager at Screen Ireland. “The Animation Pathways Fund announced today will help to address some of these skills gaps, while ensuring that in line with the new Screen Ireland strategy, access to the sector is open to a diverse range of talent from all backgrounds.”

Ronan McCabe, CEO of Animation Ireland, added: “It's great to have the opportunity to increase access to the animation sector for people from more diverse backgrounds. Our industry is only enhanced when the voices of the traditionally under-represented are heard. This is a great initiative.”

Applications are welcome for proposals that address the following in particular:

  • Opportunities for under-represented participants wishing to transition from other sectors.
  • Opportunities for those who wish to return to the Animation sector after a period of absence.
  • Opportunities for refugees seeking to transition to the Animation sector.
  • Gender and diversity balance in specific departments and roles where gender and diversity would historically be skewed.

Through the scheme, producers from the Animation sector can apply for a funding award of up to a maximum of €10,000 per production/project in 2022. Projects awarded funding must commence production before 31st December 2022.

The Animation Pathways Fund will be open throughout 2022 until the total fund is fully expended.
