Over 1.3 million Tune In To See Ireland Win The Grand Slam on TV3
21 Mar 2018 :
Dubbed ‘Grand Slam Saturday’, the TV3 St. Patrick’s Day special has emerged as a ratings winner as 1,328,000 viewers watched Ireland beat England in Twickenham and lift the NatWest 6 Nations Trophy.

The broadcaster recorded an average audience of 951,000 who tuned in to England v Ireland on Saturday, making it the highest rating programme on Irish TV this year.

A further 100,000 viewers tuned in to watch England v Ireland, live on 3player.

Ireland’s Got Talent: Deliberation Day’ show, which followed the match on Saturday night delivered an average audience of 333,000 viewers, and alongside the ‘NatWest 6 Nations’ coverage, contributed to a record breaking, all day share of viewing of 35.4% for TV3 Group.

Speaking about the successful weekend, Bill Malone, Director of Programming said:

“Ireland’s historic Grand Slam win over England at Twickenham on Saturday was the perfect ending to TV3’s first NatWest 6 Nations tournament. It truly was a national event, and with over 1.3 million viewers tuning in during the course of the game, it is the most watched television programme this year.

It was a huge weekend for TV3 and represented a great coming together of live sport and entertainment as we kicked off the Ireland’s Got Talent live shows last night. With two more live Semi-Finals to come this week, before the Live Grand Final this Saturday, it’s shaping up to be yet another momentous week on TV3.”

This news follows yesterday’s announcement that TV3 will broadcast a selection of ‘Champions Cup’ games free-to-air next season.

‘Ireland’s Got Talent’ Live Semi-Finals continue this Wednesday, 21st March at 8pm and Thursday 22nd March at 8.30pm on TV3.   The Live Grand Final takes place Saturday 24th March at 7.30pm on TV3.
