RTÉ to Broadcast exciting new Children’s Comedy Puppet Series ‘Wildwoods’ from Sixteen South
25 May 2017 : Katie McNeice
The latest series from the ‘Lily’s Driftwood Bay’ creators is currently filming in various forests across Ireland and drives home the message to children to connect with the outdoors in favour of digital devices.

RTÉ is set to be the lead broadcaster, while Australian ABC Kids has also acquired the series and WDR mediagroup handles worldwide distribution.

‘Wildwoods’ will consist of twenty-six eleven minute episodes, featuring sasquatch Cooper and sugar glider Poppy.

Other acclaimed series from Sixteen South are the multi award-winning ‘Lily’s Driftwood Bay’, Emmy-nominated Jim Henson series ‘The Panjanimals’ and BAFTA-winning ‘Big & Small’.

Colin Williams, Creative Director, Sixteen South:
“We are thrilled to have RTÉ on board as lead broadcaster for ‘WildWoods’. It’s a very special comedy series that’s been almost eight years in the making and features two funny new characters that we hope will encourage children to disconnect from the digital device and reconnect with nature—and the only place to film a show like that is completely outdoors.”

Richard Williams, CEO, Northern Ireland Screen:
“Sixteen South is one of the great success stories of the Northern Ireland screen industry and continually produces quality work. We are delighted that RTÉ have acquired WildWoods and are excited to see how this ambitious project turns out.”

Pauline MacNamara, Executive Producer, Young People’s Programming, RTÉ:
“‘WildWoods’ promises to be a luscious comedy treat for RTÉjr viewers. It’s a winning combination: the classic odd couple, Cooper and Poppy, and the spectacular wild landscapes of Ireland. We’re very pleased to be part of this grand-scale puppet project with Sixteen South.”
