The competition invites all secondary school students from across Ireland currently doing 4th, 5th or 6th year, to submit their own short animation clip to be in with the chance to win the YAOTY award. The theme of the animation is ‘The Illusion of Life,’ and is to be no longer than 1 minute.

Entry to the competition is FREE and the closing date for students will be Friday, February 3rd, 2017.

The animation will be accepted in a number of styles, including: Hand drawn, Cut-out, Claymation, Computer generated or Stop-motion animation.

The winner will be presented with their award by a Disney Channel executive at a premiere screening of their winning film, which will be shown at the 5th Animation Dingle event 24th-25th, March 2017. The winning student will also be offered a placement in JAM Media’s studios in either Belfast or Dublin, along with an award designed by Dingle jeweller, Brian de Staic.

David Levine, General Manager of Disney Channels UK & Ireland:
"Disney Channels have a heritage of hit animated series and we are proud to be supporting young Irish animators through this award. The Dingle Animation Festival is an incubator for the industry and we look forward to seeing the entries from this rich pool of talent".

John Rice, CEO of JAM Media:
"We're delighted to have Disney Channels on board to support this wonderful competition. 'YAOTY' aims to celebrate the animators of tomorrow, and we look forward to having the winner experience working in JAM"

The Animation Dingle event is listed as 'One of the top Not-To-Missed events in the World' by Animation Magazine and is attended by all the major animation colleges and studios within Ireland. The event is also usually attended by representatives of Disney, Amazon, RTÉ CBBC, CBeebies along with others.
