Maureen O’Hara Heads World Class Lineup for Fleadh

Maureen O’Hara heads a fantastic lineup of talented filmmakers, actors and directors participating in the 16th Galway Film Fleadh taking place from the 6 – 11 July 2004.

There will be a tribute given to screen legend O’Hara whose career has spanned seven

decades and includes an enviable string of classic films including ‘Rio Grande’ , ‘The Brave and The Beautiful’, ‘The Quiet Man’ and ‘The Parent Trap’ to name but a few. Galway City Council will host a Civic Reception for Maureen O' Hara and she will be the subject of the Public Interview at Galway's Town Hall Theatre on Sunday July 11th. This event is open to the public and it is strongly advised that those interested in attending, purchase their tickets early.

In addition, Susan Lynch (Red Roses & Petrol) will also be attending the Fleadh, leading a wave of new Irish acting talent that includes her co-stars Olivia Tracey, and Catherine Farrell (sister of Colin) making her film debut. Also, Eva Birthistle who appears in two films in this year's Fleadh (Ae Fond Kiss, Timbucktu), Allen Leech, Tom Jordan Murphy and Ciaran Nolan who all star in Paddy Breathnach's lastest ‘Man About Dog’ and Mark Huberman, Pat McGrath and Ailish Symons who play the lead roles in Irish director Stephen Kane's second feature ‘Starfish.’ Established Irish stars who will feature in this year's films include Sean McGinley, comedian Pat Shortt and US based Fionnuala O'Flanagan who all star in ‘Man About Dog’, while Mark O'Halloran and Tom Murphy takes the lead roles in Lenny Abrahamson's highly anticipated debut feature ‘Adam and Paul’.

Many of Ireland's film mavericks will be present for a special retrospective of their work including Joe Comerford, Bob Quinn, Cathal Black, Vivienne Dick, Pat O'Connor, and Thaddeus O'Sullivan.

The festival will welcome a host of international directors including; Jake Mahaffy (War), Tamar Simon Hoffs (Red Roses and Petrol), Maureen Foley (American Wake), Gonzalo Justiniano (B-Happy), and Brett Leonard (Jailbait - winner of Grand Jury Prize at Lake Placid Film Festival).

As part of the UK Cinema season in partnership with the British Film Council the festival will welcome; Susannah Gent(Jelly Dolly), May Miles Thomas (Solid Air) and Duncan Roy (Aka).

Finally as previously revealed on IFTN; Josie MacAvin, Paul Laverty, Stanley Tucci, Kieran J. Walsh and John Lynch will be involved in masterclasses throughout the festival week.
