The IFTA nominee will star alongside Melissa Barrera (In The Heights, Scream VI) in a currently untitled project from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, directors of the two latest installment in the Scream franchise.
Alisha Weir, lead of Matilda: The Musical, will star in an untitled monster movie from Universal and Radio Silence, the filmmaking collective behind the recent Scream films.
Irish screenwriter Stephen Shields (The Hole in the Ground) wrote the screenplay, with revisions by Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Scream VI). Jay Polidoro, Holly Goline, Kelly Cannon and Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for Universal.
Plot details are currently under wraps. The project was previously titled Dracula’s Daughter. The Hollywood Reporter described the project at this stage as being “centered on a group of kidnappers who abduct a band of young people”, one of which are revealed to be Dracula’s Daughter, and misery befalls upon the group.
It is currently unclear if the film has any connection to the 1936 Universal film Dracula’s Daughter. The studio have stated that this project will continue the “unique take[s] on legendary monster lore” that recent Universal films have explored, such as Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man and Renfield starring Nicolas Cage.
Weir is reported to be playing the kidnappee who is revealed to be more than she appears, with Barrera playing one of the kidnappers.
Chad Villella, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein are producing for Radio Silence, and James Vanderbilt is producing for Project X Entertainment. Tripp Vinson is also producing.
