Gréasán an Meán Skillnet, the practical media training Skillnet, is launching a newly created training scheme as part of Skillnet Ireland’s Rebuilding business and supporting impacted workers supports.

Cracking Entertainment aims to give applicants an opportunity to discover, develop, fine tune their multi camera abilities in music and entertainment television.

The course will cover several different disciplines including Gallery Production Assistants (PA’s) / BCO’s (Broadcast Co-ordinators), Multi Camera Directors Training, and Vision Mixers.

Each of the training elements will begin online with the first course starting on the 24th of May. 

After the online sessions, the groups will be brought together in a Covid-Safe live studio environment where their new skills will be put to the test and continue the training in a high-pressure environment. 

Cracking Entertainment: The PA Course

Master the mystery and magic of live music coverage. Learn to breakdown, format, script, bar count and shot call. Here you will find all you need to know about layout, gallery etiquette, timing, scripting, and realising music and entertainment television. 

Taking you from basics to brilliance, this bespoke course will test your acquired theory in a live studio environment. Mentored by an award-winning director and staffed by top TV professionals this training course takes you from classroom to hot seat enabling you to hone your skills and take away shows to prove your progress. 

With a unique combination of online, classroom and practical exercises this tailor-made course will benefit anyone seeking employment diversity and advancement in the music and entertainment television industry. 

The course begins on the May 24th, 2021.

  • Monday 24th: 10-11.30am & 3.00-4.30pm 
  • Tuesday 25th: 10.00-11.30am
  • Wednesday 26th: 10.00-11.30am 
  • Thursday 27th: 10.00-11.30am 
  • Friday 28th: 10.00-11.30am 
  • Friday 4th June: 10.00-11.30 & 3.00-5.00pm

Cracking Entertainment: The Director Course

Make multi-camera music and entertainment your focus in this unique training course which propels you at speed from classroom to directing hot seat. Learn how to visualise, realise, script, and deliver a multi- camera music entertainment show. 

You’ll discover how to deconstruct and reconstruct formats and develop skills and techniques to help you capture live music performance at its best. During the course you’ll create and run your own music show and get to shadow an award-winning director in action from brief to broadcast. 

Control the studio, orchestrate the live gallery, deliver finely tuned content, and take away personal proof of your progress. Ride the rollercoaster of entertainment television from planning to performance. It’s exciting, intense, dynamic, and rewarding and you’ll be mentored at every step to make sure you stay on track and don’t go off the rails.

The course begins on the May 31st, 2021.

Cracking Entertainment: The Vision Mixer

Gréasán an Meán Skillnet is offering a unique multi-camera training course, which offers applicants the chance to meet the directors and PA’s of the future. Fine tune your responses and learn to capture all music genres both scripted and non-scripted. You’ll be mentored by an award-winning multi-camera director and work with him and top TV professionals. Be part of a dynamic studio experience and see your progress. Learn to bar count and cut music and entertainment live

The course begins on the May 24th, 2021.

Studio Course: 

  • Tuesday 8th - Saturday 12th June 2021 : 10.00-6.00pm (Approx.)

Application process

Places are extremely limited and not automatic. Trainees will be chosen based on various factors - enthusiasm, previous experience, commitment, and may be required to do a zoom interview before being offered a place. 

You will need access to a smart phone and a computer and have access to Zoom.

You will need to be able to be get to Galway for the studio days from the 8th-12th of June and will be responsible for your own accommodation. (Assistance may be given in supporting you finding accommodation).
