Eileen Gray Documentary 'Gray Matters' to open ADFF on 17th May
14 May 2020 : News Desk
Gray Matters opens the second edition of the ADFF.
Based on the 20th Century Irish artist, Eileen Gray, Gray Matters will open the Second Edition of the Architecture and Design Film Festival’s streaming program ADFF: Online.

Directed by Mark Orsini, the documentary is a historical, scholarly and cinematic investigation of the life and career of one of the most influential but least known modernist icons.

Gray Matters examines Gray's lifelong immersion in art, design and architecture—her fierce dedication to the work and unswerving faith in her aesthetic vision—while chronicling her inspiration, her challenges, and her influence, as well as the tragedies and controversies that punctuated her exceptional life. It considers the contemporary relevance of her Modern and Minimalist architectural and design aesthetic, with Gray’s newly restored masterpiece, Villa e1027, playing a leading role in this compelling account of inspiration, rivalry, jealousy, neglect, and rehabilitation.

In addition to the ADFF: Online presentation of Gray Matters, a feature film based on Eileen Gray, The Price of Desire, directed by Irish director Mary McGuckian (The Girl from Mogadishu), which tells the controversial story of her relationship with the egotistical ‘Father of Modernism,’ Le Corbusier, will soon be available on Digital Platforms and On Demand.

Gray Matters was released in North America by First Run Features and is available on numerous digital platforms. The May ADFF: Online series will run from Sunday, 17thof May through 20thMay, with a new film, live introduction, Q&A, and more each night.
