'Spotlight on the Troubles: A Secret History' to Air on BBC One at 8.30pm
10 Sep 2019 : News Desk
The first episode of the seven-part documentary series shedding light on the lesser known details of the Troubles airs tonight, Tuesday 10th September at 8.30pm.

The documentary has been commissioned to mark the 50-year anniversary of the arrival of the British Army in Northern Ireland, an act which is widely regarded as being the starting point of the 30-year-long conflict.

A leading team of investigative journalists uncover secrets about the decades-long conflict that claimed more than 3,700 lives. The series will contain interviews with around 100 people, as well as archive material that has never been shown before.

Part one of the documentary explores the lead up lead-up to the arrival of the British Army to Northern Ireland in 1969, including the two communities’ suspicions of each other leading to unrest and eventually sectarian violence. Episode one will also explore the early days of both Sinn Féin’s Martin McGuinness and Ian Paisley, the former DUP leader and first minister, from 1966 to 1972.

The first episode will air at 8.30pm on BBC Four & BBC One Northern Ireland, and will also be available to view on BBC’s iPlayer service shortly afterwards.
