Paper Owl Films' 'Far Isle' to Premiere at Galway Film Fleadh
04 Jul 2019 : News Desk
Paper Owl Films' 'Far Isle'
Laura Robinson’s short film debut, ‘Far Isle’, will premiere at the 2019 Galway Film Fleadh on Sunday 14th July at 12:00 in the Town Hall Theatre.

In ‘Far Isle’, a young girl called Fern is fed-up of everything, until a great storm and some new friends help her to see the magic in the everyday.

Far Isle was created as a fictionalised microcosm of many young adults’ experiences today. Many choose to leave these shores in the hope of finding a better life elsewhere, only to find that through financial, political, or family reasons that they have to move back. However, broadening our horizons and experiencing new things can often increase the appreciation of what we once had. There is no place like home.

Laura is delighted that her debut short film has been selected for Galway:  “I hope that the audience will feel nostalgia for the children’s picture book aesthetic, and that the take away message of looking at the world with new eyes will challenge them to appreciate and make the most of what they have.”

‘Far Isle’ is the second short film produced by Paper Owl Films through the Creative Animation scheme. Managing Director, Gavin Halpin is also thrilled that ‘Far Isle’ will be shown in Galway. “We were delighted to have the opportunity to produce this film. Creating your first short film is such a milestone in a director’s journey and it’s been great to see Laura do that at Paper Owl. New directors need nurturing opportunities to take risks and try new things with experienced mentors supporting them. We must continue to find new ways to do that for fresh talent coming through – as we progress our mission of growing international companies here with a unique creative voice that is being heard all over the world.  We remain ever grateful to NI Screen and its excellent support for us to nurture new talent and celebrate our creative all over the world.”

‘Far Isle’ was developed through Northern Ireland Screen’s Creative Animation Scheme. The scheme is designed to develop Northern Ireland resident junior creators/animators through the production of animated short films. Successful applicants get the opportunity to develop their own ideas with support from established animation companies. Funding is provided by both Northern Ireland Screen and BFI Network.
