The feature documentary about the Irish boxer has been added to the London-based, sales outfit WestEnd Films’ slate for the Toronto International Film Festival.
WestEnd’s new acquisition will fall under their ‘WeLove’ brand, which focuses on content a variety of formats for female audiences, including feature films, TV, web series, and documentaries.
Irish feature film ‘Float Like a Butterfly’ from director Carmel Winters and producers Martina Niland and David Collins, is also on WestEnd’s TIFF slate.
Speaking to ScreenDaily, Maya Amsellem from WestEnd said:
“The film offers an astonishing and intimate portrait of a woman with immense talent, raw ambition and strong family ties – a powerful role model for young women worldwide.”
The film follows Taylor’s career over a ten-year period, focusing on the defining moments so far. ‘Katie’ charts the ups and downs of the boxer’s career, including her Olympic gold-medal win at the 2012 London Olympics, five consecutive gold medals at the Women’s World Championships, the heartache of the Rio Olympics and her unbeaten professional career to date.
Directed by Ross Whitaker (‘Unbreakable: The Mark Pollock Story’), the documentary premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh in June, winning Best Irish Documentary. Whitaker also produces the project alongside Aideen O’Sullivan and Andrew Freedman, whilst the film was funded by Screen Ireland, the Broadcast Authority of Ireland, RTE and Wildcard Distribution.
Executive producers for ‘Katie’ are Andrew Freedman, Lesley McKimm, Patrick O’Neill and Cliona O’Leary. Andrew Hearne edited the documentary, with Brendan Rehill on sound and Kev. L. Smith on camera.
