Nerve Belfast is looking for committed and enthusiastic young people between the ages of 16 and 19 to be a part of the BFI Film Academy 2018/19 Network Programme delivered by Nerve Belfast Creative Learning Centre.

As a BFI Film Academy participant you will work with filmmakers and take part in a series of master classes and workshops with industry professionals, hear their top tips on how to get into and succeed in the film industry, get practice in developing your ideas and producing your own work.  Previous Masterclasses have included Producer Greg Spence (Game of Thrones), Costume and Production Designer Enda Kenny (King Arthur, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), Writer, Director Mik Duffy (Hitch, Hopper), Writer, Director Aidan Largey (Mini Series Farr, Time and Again) and Editor Helen Sheridan (The Fall, Line of Duty).

Once you have completed the Network course, you will become part the growing BFI Film Academy alumni network with access to events such as BAFTA career talks.

For more information about past courses and to see some of the films made please visit www.bfi.org.uk/filmacademy

Course will run each week from 10am-16.30 commencing – Saturday 22nd September 2018 until Saturday 16th February 2019, with a showcase on Saturday 23rd February 2019.

(Closed 27th October and 22nd and 29th December)

 Shoot dates –

12th and 13th January

19th and 20th January

26th and 27th January

You will only be required to be on set for one full weekend in January. Dates will be decided depending on film group.

You will need to make sure that you can attend all these dates before signing up and be able to make your own transport arrangements to and from the centre.

Additional days may occur after school hours, during term breaks to meet the deadlines of the course, however this will always be discussed beforehand.

Location – Nerve Belfast Creative Learning Centre / Community Wing at Belfast Model School for Girls / 35 Dunowen Gardens / Belfast / BT14 6NQ.

Accreditation – You will work towards gaining a NCFE certificate, a recognised qualification amongst employers, universities and colleges. To achieve this during the Film Academy, you’ll be required to plan your work and create and maintain your own portfolio and this may require some work outside of course hours.

Costs – The cost to participate in the BFI Film Academy delivered by Nerve Belfast Creative Learning Centre is £25, refundable in full upon successful completion of the course.

Bursaries will also be made available if you require assistance with travel, child care or other costs.

Eligibility – You need to be between the ages of 16 and 19 on the first day of the Academy programme and not be attending university.  You must be a UK resident and able to commit to the programme for its duration.

Download and complete an application form and equal opportunities monitoring formsave as your name and email to Jennifer McAlorum by 5pm Wednesday 5th September 2018.
