The Irish Film Board Welcomes Major International Studios to Ireland in Busy First Quarter
27 Apr 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) was delighted to welcome The Walt Disney Company back to Ireland, with the hit ABC series ‘Quantico’, which recently wrapped production on the season three finale episodes in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow.

Disney’s return to the country follows on from Lucasfilm’s ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’, which filmed on location along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way in 2016. The first quarter of 2018 also saw production wrap on the Amblin Entertainment’s horror, ‘The Turning’, which filmed on location in Kilruddery Estate and Gardens in Wicklow.

Filming locations on the Irish leg of ‘Quantico’ included Trinity College, Christchurch Cathedral, Glendalough and Powerscourt Estate.

It has been three years since American hero Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) has had to navigate the dangerous waters of the Central Intelligence Agency and put her life on the line for her country. She has been living a peaceful, anonymous life somewhere in Italy. However, Alex is forced to abandon this idyllic existence when Ryan (Jake McLaughlin) persuades her to help him rescue Shelby (Johanna Braddy) from a notorious international arms dealer known only as The Widow, who is holding her hostage. A whole new future lies ahead for this team when they agree to work together as an elite black-ops task force.

‘Quantico’ stars Priyanka Chopra as Alex Parrish, Jake McLaughlin as Ryan Booth, Johanna Braddy as Shelby Wyatt, Russell Tovey as Harry Doyle, Alan Powell as Mike McQuigg, with Marlee Matlin as Jocelyn Turner and Blair Underwood as Owen Hall.

Created by Josh Safran, the series executive producers are Mark Gordon, Nicholas Pepper, Robert Sertner, Adam Armus, Russell Lee Fine and Michael Seitzman.  The series is produced by ABC Studios.

Based on ‘The Turn of the Screw’ — the acclaimed 1898 novella by Henry James — ‘The Turning’ is directed by Floria Sigismondi (‘The Handmaid’s Tale’) and stars Mackenzie Davis alongside Finn Wolfhard. The title is produced by Amblin Entertainment — the production company helmed by Academy Award®-winning director, Steven Spielberg and is slated for release in 2019.

The episodes of ‘Quantico’ filmed in Ireland and ‘The Turning’ both received on-the-ground logistical support from the Inward Production Unit at the Irish Film Board and were supported by Ireland’s tax incentive program, Section 481.
