RTE Coverage of Budget 2018

RTÉ will deliver comprehensive coverage of Budget 2018 on Tuesday 10th October with extensive reporting and analysis across television, radio, online and mobile.

Television coverage of Budget 2018 begins on RTÉ One at 12.40pm as Bryan Dobson and Keelin Shanley present live coverage and analysis of the Budget speech right through the afternoon. There will be reaction from members of the public in Waterford, Galway and Dublin, as well as from politicians, representative bodies and organisations across the country via RTÉ 's network of regional studios. Nuacht RTÉ will follow directly on RTÉ One at 5.45pm, while live coverage of Dáil Éireann featuring responses from the opposition will continue on RTÉ2 between 2.00pm and 7.00pm


RTÉ News Now will simulcast the budget coverage on RTÉ One throughout the day as well as providing a concise, easy-to-view guide to the key political and economic decisions.

RTÉ Radio 1 coverage of the budget speeches will be broadcast live on a special News at One programme presented by Aine Lawlor, beginning at 12.50pm, featuring immediate reaction and analysis. 

 

RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta proramme Lá na Cáinaisnéise will be broadcast live from Leinster House, from 1.30 pm.  Presenter Gormfhlaith Ní Thuairisg will chair a panel discussion to analyse the budget and its political and societal implications.  Panelists will include tax consultant Ciarán Ó Feinneadha, Former Minister for Finance Alan Dukes, Tom Healy from the Nevin Economic Research Institute, Conall Ó Móráin, finance expert and Co-Chair of the Irish International Business Network, Peadar Ó Caomhánaigh, Head of Communications at Active Retirement Ireland, and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta journalist Máirín Ní Ghadhra.  

 

Join Mary Wilson and the Drivetime Budget panel for all the details of Budget 2018 from 4.00pm on RTÉ Radio 1. With analysis of how the changes will affect workers and those in receipt of state benefits, and political reaction from across the spectrum in Dáil Éireann.

 

Drivetime will also focus on how the changes announced in Budget 2018 will affect key areas in the lives of people throughout Ireland. Reporter John Cooke will watch the Budget speech in a homeless family hub. Brian Lally will be outside a hospital emergency department as details of the health budget for next year are announced. Fergal Keane will be on Kildare Street in Dublin City, gauging the reaction of business and farming groups. And there'll be a special focus on Brexit.

 

Throughout the programme, Mary will call on the expert analysis of tax lawyer Suzanne Kelly, Professor Sheila Killian from the Kemmy Business School at UL, and Joe Tynan, international tax partner at PwC.

 

Fresh from his speech to the Dáil, Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure, will speak to Mary at 5pm.  And there'll be responses from Michael McGrath of Fianna Fáil, Pearse Doherty of Sinn Féin and Ruth Coppinger of Solidarity-People Before Profit.  Plus a special budget column from broadcaster Olivia O'Leary.


RTÉ.ie and RTÉ News Now App will provide comprehensive online coverage and analysis, including full Budget detail and reaction in English and as Gaeilge. RTÉ's news tracker will chart each development on this key day for every Irish household and business. Live streams from all of RTÉ's television and radio coverage will be available worldwide to users via RTÉ Player and RTÉ Radio Player. 

The Six One News with Bryan Dobson and Sharon Ni Bheolain will be extended until 7.30pm with a comprehensive look at the Budget, an interview with the Minister live from Leinster House and analysis from RTÉ correspondents along with reaction from politicians. Later in the evening there will be also be budget news and reaction on the Nine O’Clock News with Eileen Dunne.


Prime Time will feature a Budget Special at 9.40pm presented by Miriam O’Callaghan and David McCullagh. The programme will be analysing how the budget will affect the money in your pocket and discussing its implications with audience members and politicians.

On RTÉ Radio 1 from 10pm, The Late Debate with Cormac Ó'hEadhra comes from Dublin city centre with a budget special - hearing from all parties and independent politicians, along with representative groups to find out what the 2018 budget will mean and what the reaction is to it

On the morning after the budget, Sean O'Rourke will be joined by Minister Donohoe in studio for what has become the annual budget phone in special. Today with Sean O'Rourke invites listeners to phone in to speak to the Minister directly and ask him about their concerns as a result of Budget 2018. Listeners can email their questions to todaysor@rte.ie  while users on Twitter can follow the discussion at @TodaySOR #todaysor
