Galway Film Fleadh Pitching Competition Open for Entries
2017-05-05 9:00:00 : Katie McNeice
The annual competition encourages budding screenwriters and filmmakers with ideas at any stage of development to develop the craft of pitching.

It is designed not only to give upcoming talent the opportunity to pitch but to demonstrate how fundamental the process is to convincing directors, producers and financiers of the merits of a project.

In 2010 the Fleadh opened with with Paul Fraser's ‘My Brothers’ which began three years previously by a writer of the pitching competition, Will Collins. Collins now has an Oscar nomination for ‘Song of the Sea’.

Applicants are required to submit a five hundred word pitch for a feature film of any genre including but not limited to animation and documentary. From here applicants will be selected to deliver an elevator pitch of ninety seconds in front of an audience and panel of industry judges on the closing day of the 29th Galway Film Fleadh, Sunday July 16th.

Janet Hayes, 2016 Winner:
“I developed my script during my MA in Screenwriting in the Huston Film School in NUIG. I had my first draft done prior to the Fleadh so the challenge was to condense a 90 minute script into a succinct, engaging 90 seconds. Winning was a huge honour as I was up against some stiff competition. Since winning, I’ve had “Edges”, the script that I pitched optioned, and got the attention of some heavy hitters in the industry. I’m working on the next draft of ‘Edges’ and I’m also writing a 6 part dark comedy drama series I hope to finish mid-2017.”

The winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony that evening and will receive a cash prize of €3000. The deadline for applications is Wednesday,  June 7th.
