Irish Documentary Series ‘Adoption Stories: What Happened Next’ Airs on TV3
19 Apr 2017 : Laura Brennan
The highly emotive documentary series, ‘Adoption Stories: What Happened Next’ produced by Flawless Films for TV3, returns for a second series, Thursday 20th April at 8.30pm.

The second series will look back at some of the most heart-warming and heart-breaking cases and follow up with the families who appeared on the original show ‘Adoption Stories’ to see what happened next.

From disappointing DNA results to wrong information to being a secret, our people try again to find their blood relatives and be reunited with their natural parents, despite Irish adoption law withholding their birth files.

Since the very first Adoption Stories in 2010, things have changed drastically for many of the people and families featured in the earlier series, so too have attitudes toward adoption, both public and personal, and not always positively.

While adopted people and their natural parents continue to campaign for their records to be open to them, ‘Adoption Stories: What Happened Next’ shows how the separation of mother and child at birth can last a lifetime.

In episode one, the programme revisits Theresa Tinggal. Theresa was 48 when she discovered she had been illegally adopted. She has spent the 14 years since then trying to find any clue about who her mother is, but no records exist.

In this episode, she discovers more matches in her DNA results - another 1st cousin - and trawls through public records to trace the families to Tipperary

Series two of ‘Adoption Stories: What Happened Next’ airs on TV3, Thursday 20th April at 8.30pm.
