First Frames Funding Scheme Information Evening: Monday March 20th

The informative session will run through the scheme with prospective applicants, and is funded by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office and DLR Local Enterprise Office, and managed by Filmbase.

While applications do not open until Tuesday, March 21st, the information evening takes place today in the Studio, DLRLexIcon, Haigh Terrace, Moran Park, Dún Laoghaire. Filmmakers may apply via the link provided below.

Two films will receive funding of up to €10,000 each, with additional equipment and facilities support from Filmbase and IADT valued at up to €10,000 per project.

First Frames welcomes a diversity of filmmaking styles, themes and creative approaches. The principle requirements are good stories, and a passionate vision for filmmaking. The goal is to open the door to new and emerging Irish film talents.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s purpose in promoting this opportunity is to support emerging filmmakers to make vibrant and compelling films and to increase awareness of the variety and flexibility of locations available in the region.

Filmbase and DLR will also run optional project development clinics for prospective applicants in advance of the application deadline.

Story clinics will review and elaborate on the fundamentals of good storytelling in the short film format. Participants may use the workshops to outline project ideas and to receive guidance and feedback on shaping their screenplays before submission deadlines.

Application clinics will review and elaborate on the types of support materials which may be useful in supporting a good application, including director’s notes, producer’s notes, budgets, production plans, visual references and suggesting locations. The clinic will also be an opportunity to promote thinking on festival and distribution strategies for short films and how to incorporate these into supporting an application for funding.
