Irish Co-Production ‘Return to Montauk’ set for Berlinale 2017
11 Jan 2017 : Katie McNeice
Volker Schlöndorff (The Tin Drum) directs the Irish, French and German co-production in a cast which includes Irish actres Bronagh Gallagher (You, Me and the Apocalypse), cast by Rowan Casting in Ireland.

Schlöndorff’s script is co-written with Colm Tóibín (María conversa) based on the novel by Swiss writer Max Frisch. ‘Return to Montauk’ will enjoy its world premiere at the festival, which runs from February 9th-19th.

It follows Maz Zorn (Stellan Skarsgård) who meets a young woman during a book tour in the US, who returns many years later in the hope of reconnecting. It was filmed in New York.

‘Return to Montauk’ producers include the Irish Savage Productions (Conor Barry) in addition to Ziegler Film (Regina Ziegler, Germany) and Pyramid Productions (Francis Boesplug, France).

Irish talent David O’Reilly, previously a winner of the Golden Bear for Best Short Film in 2009 for ‘Please Say Something’, is presenting on his film philosophy and new video game ‘Everything’. This project inverts normal modes of gaming by lacking in levels and instead allowing the gamer to become everything and anything.

Other leading projects in competition are ‘Logan’ from ‘Girl, Interrupted’ director  James Mangold, ‘T2 Trainspotting’ (Danny Boyle).
