RTÉ One’s brand new Sunday night family entertainment show ‘Dancing with the Stars’ got off to a glittering start last night tangoing its way to an average audience of 640,000 viewers and an audience share of 43 per cent. Over 1.2 million viewers tuned in over the course of the two-hour show.

Commenting on the figures Adrian Lynch, Channel Controller for RTÉ One and RTÉ2, said: “It’s great to see Dancing with the Stars get off to such a strong start. We wanted to bring some glamour and sparkle to Sunday nights on RTÉ One and create fun family appointment-to-view television. Well done to Shinawil and all our celebs for their hard work and we’re looking forward to seeing how the drama unfolds on the dance floor over the next 11 weeks.”

The show generated a huge amount of reaction on social media with hashtag #DWTSIrl trending number one throughout yesterday, while the show’s live Facebook interviews on its RTÉ One Facebook account received over 70,000 views.

On RTÉ Player ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and the Friday night show ‘Can’t Stop Dancing’ including special extra content, have attracted over 25,000 streams with Des Cahill's foxtrot the most watched clip on RTÉ Player to date.
