Pierce Brosnan accepts European Achievement in World Cinema Award at #EFA2016
12 Dec 2016 : Katie McNeice
The ‘James Bond’ franchise and ‘Mamma Mia!’ star was honoured at the annual European Awards ceremony in Wroclaw on Saturday, December 10th.

Brosnan was honoured not only for his acting career but for his work behind the camera as a producer, having founded Irish Dreamtime in 1998, which has produced almost a dozen films.

In addition to titles such as 'Evelyn' (2002), 'The Matador' (2005) and 'The November Man' (2014), he also produced and starred in 'I.T.' from John Moore (Max Payne) this year. The project was filmed in Ireland and is expected to release in the latter part of 2017.

Pierce Brosnan:
“This affirmation for my work as an actor and producer could not come at a better time in life, believe me. This honour bestowed on me by the European Film Awards for my work is the most meaningful and rewarding gift I could ever receive.”

Brosnan was also presented with an honourary award for his Outstanding Irish Contribution to Cinema in 2004 by the Irish Film & Television Academy, which was presented by fellow actor John Cleese. IFTA also awarded him with the Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film for in 2010 for 'The Ghost Writer' (Roman Polanski).

Additional Irish nominations at the EFA Awards included Best Film and Best Screenwriter (Emma Donoghue) nominations for ‘Room’ (Lenny Abrahamson) and People’s Choice nomination for ‘The Lobster’ (Yorgos Lanthimos).

The standout winner of the night was 'Toni Erdmann', which achieved award wins for each of its five nominations across the categories of Best European Film, Director (Maren Ade), Actor (Peter Simonischek), Actress (Sandra Huller) and Best Screenplay (Maren Ade).
