Radharc Awards 2016 takes place today

The awards ceremony which honours television documentaries addressing national or international topics of social justice, history, morality and faith takes place today at Talbot Stillorgan Hotel.

The Radharc Awards encourage quality documentary production in Ireland and honour the memory of Fr. Joe Dunn and Radharc’s achievements in religious affairs programmes for Irish television from 1962 to 1997.

The awards were established in 2002 and take place every two years. Producers of the best documentary which has screened on television in the past two years and best short documentary for new media will be presented with a bronze Radharc trophy.

Special guest Olivia O’Leary will be in attendance this evening, where an award will also be presented to a short documentary produced for digital media.

2014 Radharc Award Winners include was Ms. Paula Keogh of Saoi Media for ‘An Dubh ina Gheal’. Niamh Heery of SwanSong Films received the New Media Award for her short documentary ‘Harmanli: Trapped on the Fringe of Freedom’

Ruan Magan of Create One Media was highly also commended for his documentary ‘Lifers.’
