This year's Galway Film Fleadh sees the world premiere of three animated shorts produced under the Frameworks scheme.
Second to None, The Bird and the Whale and The Lost Letter will screen in the Town Hall Theatre on Sunday July 10. Co-funded by the IFB, RTÉ and the Arts Council, Frameworks is a short film scheme dedicated to the production of animated films. It has been successful year after year in stimulating ground breaking and innovative work from Irish animators.
Second to None is a black comedy in stop motion about the world's second oldest man who learns that ambition can be a killer. Written and directed by Vincent Gallagher, it was produced by Damian Farrell.
The Bird and The Whale follows a baby whale who, separated from his family, encounters a caged bird, the sole survivor of a shipwreck. This charming short is the debut from director Carol Freeman and is produced by Jonathan Clarke (Somewhere Down the Line).
The Lost Letter is the much anticipated follow-up to The Boy in the Bubble from Kealan O'Rourke. Featuring the voice of Kate Winslet, it tells the tale of a young boy whose love for Christmas is not dampened by his mean spirited neighbour, who doesn't want the holiday to come at all.
There will also be an opportunity for audiences in the west to see After '16, a programme of nine short films specially commissioned by the Irish Film Board to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising. This programme will screen in the Radisson on Saturday 9 July at 6pm.
