Irish actor Gabriel Byrne, whose film ‘Louder Than Bombs’ is currently showing in Irish cinemas, has been nominated for a Tony Award for his lead performance in Eugene O’Neill’s play Long Day’s Journey Into Night.
This is Byrne’s second nomination in the stage equivalent of the Academy Awards as he also received a nod in 2000 for Eugene O Neill’s A Moon for the Misbegotten.
O’Neill’s acclaimed Long Day’s Journey Into Night, a production of the Roundabout Theatre Company and directed by Jonathan Kent, also stars Jessica Lange and Michael Shannon, who were both also nominated for Tony Awards.
Byrne is also one of Ireland’s most decorated film and television actors, winning a Golden Globe Award in 2009 for his lead performance as a plagued therapist in HBO’s ‘In Treatment’. Other roles of Byrne’s include ‘Miller’s Crossing’, ‘Quirke’, ‘Vikings’, ‘Into The West’ and ‘The Usual Suspects’.
