25 Apr 2016 : Seán Brosnan
The deadline is 23rd September
Oscar affiliated Film Festival has launched its 2016 Light In Motion (LIM) competition, open to filmmakers and animators across the world. Based in Derry~Londonderry, the Foyle Film Festival competition is also BAFTA and BIFA recognised and will remain open for entries until 23 September.

Over the past 17 years four different LIM competitors have all proceeded to Oscar glory, including Belfast director Terry George for his captivating Northern Ireland-set short ‘The Shore’ in 2012, Martin McDonagh with ‘Six Shooter’ and most recently, Laurent Witz, for the beautifully animated feature ‘Mr Hublot’ in 2014.

The festival offers filmmakers, animators and artists a unique platform to screen their films, network with industry professionals and gain access to the international market. The 2013 winner of Best Irish Short, Stephen Fingleton has achieved success on the Irish and International stages garnering BAFTA and BIFA nominations and an IFTA Rising Star award for his first feature film ‘The Survivalist’. Also, receiving international acclaim was Belfast-based film ‘Boogaloo and Graham’, which after the Foyle Film Festival took home a BAFTA and was nominated for an Oscar.

Foyle Film Festival is also an IMDb Qualifying Festival, granting all eligible film submissions a fast-tracked title page on IMDb.com. Competition categories under LIM are, Best Short Film, Best Irish Short Film, Best Animation and Best Documentary. Recipients of the LIM Award qualify for consideration in the Short Films and Animation categories of the Academy Awards without needing the standard theatrical run.

Organised by the Nerve Centre, and funded by DCAL through Northern Ireland Screen and by Derry City and Strabane District Council, Foyle Film Festival delivers a comprehensive programme of documentaries, short films and feature films from all over the world; a full programme of educational events for schools, youth, and adults and an impressive array of industry networking events and panel discussions.

All entries for the 2016 festival must be submitted through affiliated website: www.withoutabox.com. Entries shortlisted for each category will be screened during this year’s festival which will take place from Wednesday, November 16 to Sunday, November 20 2016.

The winners will be announced at the Light in Motion Awards Ceremony before the closing night film at the Brunswick Moviebowl on Sunday, November 20 2016. The Light in Motion Awards are sponsored by City of Derry Crystal.
