Big Mountain bolsters production team with two new appointments

The newly appointed Donna Higgins and Lucy Wedlock
Big Mountain Productions has appointed Donna Higgins as head of production and Lucy Wedlock to the newly created position of series producer to support their upcoming slate of UK/US commissions.

Higgins is a line producer with 20 years of extensive experience across multiple genres of television. She has worked in the UK, the US and Canada across the production spectrum, including live location and studio OBs, entertainment, lifestyle, music, drama and factual documentaries. After working as a senior production manager at the UK’s Dragonfly Film & Television, she line produced a number of projects for Blast Films and Double Act Films. Her recent credits include ‘Web of Lies” Blast Films for Investigation Discovery, ‘Dr Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet’ Double Act Films for Animal Planet and ‘Flying to the Ends of the Earth’ Blast Films for Channel 4.

Wedlock comes to the rapidly expanding Northern Ireland indie after a spate of series production and directing roles with major broadcasters including Channel 4, ITV, BBC 3 & RTÉ. Her credits include ‘One Born Every Minute’ (Channel 4), ‘Four In A Bed’ (Channel 4), ‘Come Dine With Me,’ (Channel 4), ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me out of Here’ (ITV1) ‘Don’t Drop The Baby’ (BBC 3) and ‘Ireland’s Fittest Family’ (RTÉ One).

Jane Kelly, creative director of Big Mountain, said: “We are now reaping the rewards of years of hard work into building relationships both at home and, specifically, in the UK and US. We need an extraordinary team that can manage and deliver the commissions that we have on the table and the slate we hope to finalise in 2016, which is shaping up to be our biggest year ever. We have found in Donna and Lucy the qualities that we need to embed a team with the talent, energy and vision needed to help us realise our ambitions.”

Philip McGovern, MD, Big Mountain said: “We want to push through on the approach and success of award winning ‘Wild Ireland’ for ITV1 which got an average 3.2million viewers putting together the best teams from Ireland and UK to deliver to the broadcasters.”

Big Mountain recently announced ‘Generation Foundation’ (1 x 60 mins) for Channel 4, which will explore the make-up masters who use their faces and fashion choices to stand out, beautify — or shock. Season three of the indie’s hit format ‘Genealogy Roadshow’, which is sponsored by Ancestry.com, TXs from May 17th coast-to-coast on PBS in the US. First commissioned by RTÉ, it is the only Irish format on US network TV.
